Arthur is a real French Canadian. He served as President of R.I. in 1950-1951. Arthur was commandeered by the nominating committee. We had suggested to him months before that Toronto Rotarians would be proud to nominate him but he thanked us and said "no". He had addressed the Toronto club a year before and had "brought the house down", which is really something for a Frenchman to do in Toronto.

Although Arthur did not want the job he made a fine President and at his Convention (Atlantic City 1951) he created much amusement by asking all to joins his "Mispronunciation Club" which of course was all a joke. He insisted on calling Missouri "The state of misery" and Mississippi he pronounced "Miss, siss, ipi". His grand wife "Christine" was a great help to him. He also carried on the fine record set the three former Presidents from Canada; Leslie, Crawford and John.
